The Faculty of Dentistry reorganised its research groups in 2004 to align them with the newly established HKU Strategic Research Themes. The resulting three functional research groups are cross-disciplinary and performance-driven. Most of the Faculty's members have joined one or two groups, either as primary or secondary affiliated members.
The three functional research groups and their principal research focuses are as follows:
- Biomedical and Tissue Engineering
- Infection and Immunity
- Public Health and Healthy Ageing
Potential PhD and MPhil candidates may contact any of the research group convenors to formulate a research project and discuss their application for admission to these programmes.
