Dr Bingshuang Zou
Associate Professor, Department of Oral Health Science, Faculty of Dentistry, University of British Columbia (UBC)
Certified Specialist in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics
Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada
Dr. Zou graduated from the Orthodontic Specialty program and gained her Ph.D. degree at Peking University in Beijing, China in 1998. Then she worked as an assistant then associate professor in Department of Orthodontics, Peking University School and Hospital of Stomatology in Beijing, China for almost 20 years. Since 2018, she joined UBC as a full time faculty, where she is enjoying sharing her knowledge with future professionals and educators and keeping her knowledge and skills cutting-edge. She has many experiences in treating all kinds of complex malocclusions with the up-to-date techniques and skills which thank her duo-trained background both in China and Canada. She has also spent a couple of years visiting the world-famous orthodontic programs as Seoul National University in Korea (2001), the University of Illinois at Chicago in the USA (2002), and the University of British Columbia in Canada (2014, 2015) as a Visiting Professor. She also got her Fellowship in Orthodontics of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (MOrth RCSEd) in 2003.
TADs have been developed and incorporated in orthodontic practise for almost two decades. With the advancement of TADs design and clinical and basic researches, it has expanded the scope of orthodontic treatment dramatically.
In this lecture, I will mainly focus on two aspects. One is factors related with stability and success, which will involve the TADs design, operators’ techniques and individual dependant factors. The other is the application of TADs in clinic combined with fixed appliances and clear aligner treatment. With the case discussion, the take home message will be that TADs is an important tool for orthodontists, but diagnosis and treatment plan are always the key to success.
