Shaping the Future of Dentistry

Over the past three decades, I have had the pleasure of witnessing the remarkable progress and notable accomplishments achieved by our Faculty. I extend sincere gratitude to all staff, students, and alumni for their strong commitments, long-term dedication, and hard work. I also express deep appreciation to our University, the Prince Philip Dental Hospital (PPDH), the Government, and the professional/public communities for their tremendous support, encouragement and inspiration. As one of the world’s leading dental institutions, we are highly devoted to excelling in innovation and excellence across teaching and learning, research and discovery, professional and clinical services, and knowledge exchange, all aiming for advancing oral healthcare and the general well-being of the people we serve in Hong Kong, mainland China, and beyond.

Education forms the bedrock of our Faulty. Our undergraduate and postgraduate curricula, along with various continuing education programmes are meticulously crafted and constantly refined to nurture the growth and development of future leaders in dentistry and oral healthcare professionals. Indeed, our classical notion, ‘The future of dentistry starts today’, encapsulates our unwavering pursuit of excellence!

In this era of rapid scientific and technological progress, our Faculty research team is strongly committed to advancing precision oral healthcare, computational and digital dentistry, Artificial Intelligence (AI), multi-omics approaches, bioengineering, and e-health. Our multidisciplinary and highly integrated research focuses on five key themes – Clinical AI, Craniofacial Regeneration, Microbiome Innovation, Oral Cancer, and Population Oral Health, aligning with the University’s current strategic framework for realizing the vision of ‘Internationalisation, Innovation and Interdisciplinarity – Impact’.

Our Faculty actively engages with professional and public communities through various KE activities in collaborations with local, national, and international partners. As the sole dental institution in Hong Kong, we bear the responsibility of making substantial contributions to augmenting professional services for the community at large, in accordance with the Government’s healthcare policies and the WHO’s oral health strategy and action plan.
