OMFS MDS Graduate Won Second in Best-Case Competition in Spain

During the 26th Congress of European Association for Cranio-Maxillofacial Surgery (EACMFS) in Madrid, Master of Dental Surgery in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) graduate Dr Jingya Jane Pu received runner-up in the Best-Case Competition organized by AO CMF, AO Foundation. The case presentation was supervised by Dr Winnie Choi and Professor Richard Su of OMFS, Faculty of Dentistry, HKU.
The 26th congress of EACMFS was held on 26 - 30 September 2022 in Madrid, Spain. The biannual congress is a world-famous event and the largest OMFS congress in Europe. Participants include surgeons from plastic surgery, otorhinolaryngology, and neurosurgery.
The Best-Case Competition was organized by AOCMF during the 26th EACMFS Congress. The competition was open to all members of AOCMF worldwide. Clinical cases were submitted before the congress and three cases were short-listed by the judges to be presented during the face-to-face congress of EACMFS in Madrid. The submitted cases covered a wide clinical spectrum in OMFS, which included trauma, implant, orthognathic surgery, oncology and reconstruction.

The case submitted by Dr Pu was shortlisted to be a finalist. She presented an advanced jaw reconstruction case and immediate dental implant replacement for treating a large benign jaw tumour on a 20-year-old young man. The case utilized the 3D virtual planning, in-house surgical guide and reconstruction plate design, and 3D titanium printing. The cutting-edge technology allowed accurate tumour resection and jaw reconstruction with immediate restoration of facial contour and eating function of the patient.
The case presented by Dr Pu received overwhelmingly positive comments from the judges who are world-leading experts in OMFS. Dr Pu expressed, “The achievement showcased the excellent work of the Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery of our Faculty as one of the world-leading centers for computer-assisted jaw surgery.”
