Collaboration to better serve the community and beyond

The Faculty is delighted to have participated in the stakeholders meeting organised by the Hong Kong Dental Association (HKDA) on August 24. This pivotal event brought together representatives from Health Bureau, Department of Health, Dental Council of Hong Kong, HKU Faculty of Dentistry, The Prince Philip Dental Hospital, The College of Dental Surgeons of Hong Kong, training institutions for dental care professionals and private practices.
The meeting served as a crucial platform for fostering communication among stakeholders and promoting collaboration aimed at enhancing oral health and overall well-being of Hong Kong community and beyond.
In attendance were Professor Lijian Jin, Acting Dean; Professor Chun Hung Chu, Associate Dean (Knowledge Exchange and Development); Professor Mike Leung, Associate Dean (Alumni and External Affairs); Professor Edmond Pow (Chief, Division of Restorative Dental Sciences); Professor Edward Lo (Professor, Chair of Dental Public Health) and Professor Wai Keung Leung (representing The College of Dental Surgeons of Hong Kong).
During the meeting, representatives from the Health Bureau and Department of Health presented updates on the Government’s Working Group on Oral Health and Dental Care, outlining the future direction of oral health policy in Hong Kong. Participants engaged in active discussions regarding the challenges and opportunities facing dental care services and the industry.
There was unanimous support among participants for the Government's effort to develop preventive primary dental care services aimed at improving the public’s oral health and preserving their teeth.
Through ongoing communication and collaboration, the dental profession in Hong Kong will continue to promote and enhance the oral and general health, as well as the quality of life, of the Hong Kong community, ultimately striving for healthy ageing.
