Achieving research excellence in the Faculty
Research Group
Overview of Group Research Activities
The Public Health and Healthy Ageing Research Group is committed to protecting and improving oral health for all people by performing and synthesising clinical, community-level, and educational research, and by applying public health sciences.
Members of the group come from various disciplines and specialties, including comprehensive dental care, dental education and e-learning, dental public health, dental materials science, oral biosciences, oral diagnosis and polyclinics, oral rehabilitation, orthodontics, paediatric dentistry, and periodontology. A number of the group’s members are internationally renowned.
The Public Health and Healthy Ageing Research Group is actively involved with The University of Hong Kong’s Strategic Research Area of “The Community” and its constituent themes of “Public Health” and “Sciences of Learning”. A key operating principle of the group is to encourage research collaboration locally, regionally, and internationally. We have strong links with the HKU Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine, HKU Faculty of Education, and HKU Faculty of Social Sciences. We also extensively collaborate with the School of Public Health of the HKU Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine.
Our principal research Focuses
  • Clinical epidemiology (population-level features) of oral diseases and conditions
  • Clinical trials on innovative methods of preventing and treating oral diseases and conditions (including the use of traditional Chinese medicine)
  • Clinical communication and oral health literacy
  • Dental education
  • Oral health–related quality of life and subjective assessments of oral health
  • Oral health care services, including issues related to human resources and utilisation of services
  • Special care dentistry (dentistry for special-needs groups)
To receive further information or to enquire about collaborative research, please do not hesitate to contact the research group convenor, Professor M.C.M. Wong (e-mail: mcmwong@hkucc.hku.hk).
