Academic Staff Joins the Dental Family

The Faculty extends its warmest regards to newly joined academic staff and wishes them a great successful start to their academic careers at HKU.

Clinical Assistant Professor in Endodontics

BDS, MDS (Endo) (WHU); MSc, PhD (KU Leuven)

Dr Li Xin is from Xiantao, a city in the Hubei Province. She graduated from Wuhan University in China with a Bachelor of Dentistry and a Master of Endodontics. After that, she moved to Belgium, where she completed her PhD studies at KU Leuven as well as her postgraduate training in general dentistry.

Dr Xin is excited about the prospect of joining one of the top research and educational institutions in the world, as she believes it will present her with new challenges and career opportunities. She expressed her admiration for the HKU Faculty of Dentistry, which is internationally renowned and has received multiple top rankings in the QS World University Rankings by Subject. “I was truly astounded by the Faculty's accomplishments in becoming one of the best dental schools in the world after starting from scratch only 40 years ago.” She looks forward to working with colleagues at the Faculty to develop interdisciplinary collaboration on new research areas.

In terms of clinical practice, I aim to integrate the latest scientific evidence into healthcare to ensure a high-quality evidence-base practice in Endodontics.

Her primary areas of research interest are dental restorative biomaterials including hydraulic calcium-silicate cements, biosafe and bioactive resin-based restorative materials. She told us, “In terms of clinical practice, I aim to integrate the latest scientific evidence into healthcare to ensure a high-quality evidence-base practice in Endodontics.”

In her spare time, Dr Xin enjoys making simple jewellery, such as earrings and necklaces, for herself and her friends. She finds this creative hobby to be very fulfilling. In addition, she is also an avid traveler who loves to explore new places and admire the beauty of nature.
