Explore More on Correction of Mal-positioned Teeth and Jaws
Celebrating the 40th Anniversary of the Faculty, under Global Dental Campus, the third series of Orthodontic Webinars 2022 was launched in May.
Three online courses allowed participants to acquire knowledge and explore further the orthodontic world. On 5 May 2022, Dr Chun-Hsi Chung, Director of Postdoctoral Orthodontics Programe, University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine, kicked off the webinars. He explained the new and effective maxillary intra-arch molar distalization technique. He presented a new appliance/technique which is comfortable for patients to use, and it is also easy to be fabricated, delivered and activated.
I hope participants enjoyed the opportunity to learn something, to exchange ideas, and to make friends
The second virtual learning was conducted on 10 May 2022 when Professor Georg Meyer, Professor Dr. honoris causa granted by Moscow State University of Medicine and Dentistry, discussed craniomandibular function related to other medical disciplines. He elaborated on the consequences of dental diagnostics and pre-therapy before orthodontic treatments. Patients should be screened for temporomandibular disorders before orthodontic or restorative dental treatment.
With the topic “Anterior Open-Bite Correction in Different Types of Malocclusions”, the last webinar was delivered by Dr Kelvin Chang, Adjunct Clinical Instructor of Orthodontic Department in National Taiwan University Hospital, on 12 May 2022. He mentioned anterior open bite could be seen in all types of malocclusion from class I to class III followed by a discussion on how orthodontists can tackle this challenge with one single protocol in patients with different sagittal jaw relationships.

Dr Yanqi Yang, Postgraduate Programme Director in Orthodontics cum organiser of the webinars, was pleased that the Orthodontic Webinars 2022 was concluded with success. “I hope participants enjoyed the opportunity to learn something, to exchange ideas, and to make friends.” She is grateful to the three speakers delivering remarkable online courses. She also extended her gratitude to her team, who assisted in organising this virtual learning. She looks forward to meeting everyone in 2023, hopefully, in both webinars and also face-to-face events.
