HKU Faculty of Dentistry Ranked Second Globally in QS World University Rankings by Subject 2022
The University of Hong Kong’s Dentistry was ranked No. 2 in the world, according to the QS World University Rankings by Subject in 2022. It marks the 5th time that the HKU Dentistry has been ranked No. 2 in Dentistry, which so far, no other institution in the world has achieved.
Professor Thomas Flemmig, Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, is delighted to learn about the latest ranking of HKU Dentistry. He said that it is a testament to academic excellence led by a shared vision of being the global leader in oral health science, education and professional care as well as driven by a team of dedicated and talented staff and students. Professor Flemmig stressed that this remarkable success would not have been possible without the stimulating and supportive environment at the University of Hong Kong and the invaluable support of the members of the Prince Philip Dental Hospital. Furthermore, he noted that, “This outstanding accomplishment comes at challenging times that many of us may look for good news that lift our spirit. It may help us to look beyond the difficulties we are facing and remind us that it is in our hands to create the future.”
This year, the Faculty is celebrating its 40th Anniversary. It is the only institution in Hong Kong that provides undergraduate and postgraduate dental degrees and has educated approximately 2 out of 3 dentists and dental specialists working in Hong Kong today. The Faculty recently established an Institute for Advanced Dentistry as a centre of excellence for the treatment of advanced and complex oral conditions. It also provides postgraduate education and fosters innovation and translational research.
This outstanding accomplishment comes at challenging times that many of us may look for good news that lift our spirit. It may help us to look beyond the difficulties we are facing and remind us that it is in our hands to create the future.
Professor Flemmig is grateful to the staff who are dedicated to the Faculty. He is especially thankful to the management team.
