Presentation Competition Concluded with Applause

The 2022 Faculty Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM) was successfully held on 14 December 2022 at the Prince Philip Dental Hospital Lecture Theatre 1. In the welcoming address, Professor Thomas Flemmig, Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, welcomed all the attendees and thanked Professor Michael Huen, Jessie Ho Professor in Neuroscience, HKU School of Biomedical Sciences, for making a keynote presentation on Molecular Regulation of DNA Repair Control.
Professor Flemmig further stated that the Faculty has expanded the research capacity significantly in the last couple of years along with the establishment of the Institute for Advanced Dentistry comprises the Multi-Specialty Clinic, Central Research Laboratories, Clinical Research Centre which support postgraduate programmes and research areas.
Professor Huen in his keynote presentation, showed us his research team has identified key molecular players that coordinate double-strand break (DSB) repair with local transcriptional activities, and are also starting to unveil how nuclear actin dynamics support DSB metabolism to safeguard genome integrity.

The Annual Scientific Meeting provides a forum for students and staff to showcase their recent works. It is also a great opportunity to strengthen our community, stimulate critical thinking and foster innovation.
There were over 20 oral presentations by Faculty staff and postgraduate students. Four presentation awards were given to the best two presenters in the student category and the best two presenters in the staff category. Each awardee shall receive a prize of HK$5,000 which can be claimed on a reimbursement basis for research-related expenses or conference attendance.
At the conclusion of the ASM, a post-meeting reception was organised at the Lounge on 7/F where ASM participants could further exchange their ideas, mix and mingle to strengthen the bonds and sense of belongings.
