Professor Thomas Flemmig, welcomes freshmen on Orientation Day 2022
The Faculty held an Orientation Day for the freshmen at the Prince Philip Dental Hospital on 1 September 2022. Faces of exciting freshmen filled the lecture hall with excellent energy.
Professor Thomas Flemmig, Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, commenced the event with a welcome speech. “In the six-year program, the Faculty’s teachings will lead students to learn and know how to deliver what’s best to patients. Students will be steered in the right direction,” he shared. Professor Michael Burrow, Associate Dean (Undergraduate Education), then elaborated on the new six year BDS curriculum and shared the necessary learning skills.

Dr Mike Leung, Admissions Tutor, said, “No matter how much you have achieved in the public exam, all BDS Year 1 students stand on the same ground. You should be passionate about your learning, love your career and earn your patients’ trust.”
Professor Edward Lo, then spoke of HKU anti-plagiarism policies. Dr Waruna Dissanayaka introduced freshmen the Faculty’s learning environment with Miss Jessica Wong, E-Learning officer. Best of luck to all freshmen! We wish you an enjoyable life with the Faculty of Dentistry and HKU!
