Oral Health Talks in the Primary Dental Care Program

The second session of the series of oral health talks in the Primary Dental Care Program was held on 25 February 2026. This Program is organized by The University of Hong Kong in collaboration with the Yau Tsim Mong District Health Centre. There were about 30 attendees. The title for this session was “Basic Law for Dental Care”. The presentation was delivered by Dr Conson Yeung, Clinical Practitioner from the Faculty of Dentistry, The University of Hong Kong. The presentation emphasized the important of preventive care in maintaining good oral health. It also provided detailed information regarding how to take proper preventive care of the teeth. Many of attendees were surprised to learn that:

• It is the frequency of carbohydrate intake instead of total amount of carbohydrate intake that determines the caries risk.
• Although foodstuffs which contain added sugars generally carry a higher caries risk, foodstuff which only contain natural carbohydrate can also cause caries, just to cite two examples.

At the end, the audience members were so enthusiastic in asking questions that the presentation overran the scheduled finishing time considerably.
