IADR Hatton Awards – Junior Category

Cheers to BDS Research Team

An Undergraduate Research Team led by Professor Waruna Dissanayaka, Assistant Dean (Electives and Experiential Learning), and comprising BDS Year 6 students Cicely Chau, Minji Kwon, Sophie Fong, and Hannah Ng, has achieved outstanding success on the international stage.

After winning 1st place in the International Association for Dental Research (IADR) Southeast Asian (SEA) Division Hatton Competition – Junior Category at the IADR Asia Pacific Regional (APR) Meeting in New Delhi last year, they went on to secure 2nd place worldwide in the IADR Hatton Awards – Junior Category in San Diego in 2026.

Their research explores how GelMA biomaterial scaffolds can promote tissue regeneration in dental pulp stem cells, with promising potential as an alternative to conventional root canal treatment.

The students expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Faculty, Professor Dissanayaka, and the supporting PhD students for their guidance throughout the journey. Professor Dissanayaka praised the team’s dedication, scientific curiosity, and excellent presentation skills. We are immensely proud of this exceptional international achievement!
