Celebrating Faculty Excellence in Research and Scholarly Achievement

The Faculty is proud to celebrate notable research achievements by its academic staff, reflecting a strong commitment to advancing scientific knowledge, strengthening clinical practice, and nurturing the future academic/professional leaders in dentistry.

Among these achievements, Professor Jane Pu, Clinical Assistant Professor in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, has been honoured with the HKU Foundation Publication Award for Research Postgraduate Students 2024 at the HKU Research Postgraduate Symposium cum Award Presentation Ceremony. This prestigious accolade recognises her outstanding scholarly achievements, dedication to academic excellence, and commitment to advancing the field of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, through high-impact research and discovery. Her accomplishment reflects junior Faculty members’ pursuit of innovation and clinical advancement for the benefit of patients and the wider community.

The Faculty is also delighted to congratulate Professor Pu and Professor Tong Wah Lim, Clinical Assistant Professor in Prosthodontics, on receiving the HKU Foundation First Year Excellent PhD Award 2024/25. Funded by The University of Hong Kong Foundation for Educational Development and Research, this award recognises PhD students who demonstrate outstanding performance during their probationary period. It aims to encourage academic excellence, research innovation, and strong scholarly potential at an early stage of doctoral training.

Taken together, these achievements showcase the breadth and vitality of the Faculty’s research enterprise from supporting promising early-stage investigators to promoting excellence in scholarship with real-world relevance. They also underscore the Faculty’s commitment to building research capacity, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, and advancing patient care through innovation, precision and evidence-based best practice.

Professor Pu’s multiple honours are especially noteworthy, reflecting her exceptional dedication to both academic development and meaningful research in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Alongside the achievement of Professor Lim, their successes bring distinction to the Faculty and reinforce a shared mission to improve oral health through innovation, evidence-based practice, and scholarly excellence.
