HKU Taster @ Easter 2023

Secondary School Students Explore the World of Dentistry

On April 14, 2023, the Faculty of Dentistry welcomed 124 students from 50 secondary schools to a half-day taster programme. The event began with a warm welcome and a brief introduction of the Faculty by Dr Mike Leung, Assistant Dean in External Relations cum Admissions Tutor.

After the introductory session, students attended a lecture on dental radiology and orthodontics by Dr Andy Yeung, Tutor in Radiography, and Dr Lin Yifan, Clinical Assistant Professor in Orthodontics, respectively. It ended with an exciting online quiz game.

As dentistry is a hands-on profession, students were also given the opportunity to attend a stone cast-making workshop demonstrated by Dr Henry Luk, Tutor in Dental Technology. During the workshop, students tested their dexterity and learned the process of creating a gypsum impression of their fingers.

124 students from 50 secondary schools joined a half-day programme at the Faculty of Dentistry on April 14, 2023.

Sixteen Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) students from different years offered a guided tour of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Clinic, Paediatric Dentistry Clinic, Comprehensive Dental Care Clinics, Dental Technology Laboratory, and Dental Library of the Faculty to the secondary students. BDS students explained the learning and patient care conducted at these advanced clinics and facilities, which have been providing excellent support to our world-class education for many years.

This event was part of the HKU Taster @ Easter 2023 programme, which offers Secondary 2 – 4 / Grade 8 – 10 students an exciting taste of HKU campus life. The programme provides students the opportunity to attend various workshops, programmes, and tours offered by Faculties of Arts, Dentistry, Education, Law and Medicine.
