A groundbreaking study has now been transformed into a tangible product. The “Smart Toothbrush Navigated by Gum AI”, an innovative oral hygiene tool developed by the Faculty, has won the Gold Medal at the 49th Geneva International Exhibition of Inventions.
The smart toothbrush incorporates advanced machine learning algorithms and image processing techniques to precisely assesses gum health. Users can take selfies with their smartphone, and the toothbrush, through its intelligent features, analyses the images to provide accurate evaluations. With pressure sensors and adjustable settings, the toothbrush ensures optimal oral cleaning tailored to individual's gum condition.
The device is a collaborative effort of the research team of Professor Walter Lam, our Clinical Assistant Professor in Prosthodontics and Professor Richard Hsung from Hong Kong Chu Hai College. Their combined expertise and dedication have resulted in an innovation that has been recognised and celebrated on an international platform.
Congratulations to the research team for their innovative contribution to oral health technology!
The participation was coordinated by HKU Technology Transfer Office.
