Two enriching days for secondary school students
Professor Alice Chan instructs a student in dental fillings.
The Faculty welcomed around 100 secondary school students interested in studying dentistry at the HKU Dentistry Academy for the Talented, held from August 5-6, 2024. The two-day programme featured inspiring lectures and interactive workshops that captivated young minds.
Participants attended three engaging lectures: “Keep Your Teeth Healthy Like a Dentist,” “Before Dentistry, Beyond Dentistry,” and “You Are Ready for Dentistry,” all delivered by our esteemed faculty members.
Additionally, students participated in Problem-Based Learning (PBL) sessions facilitated by current BDS students, alongside the hands-on workshops covering various topics, including dental x-rays, fillings, intraoral scanners, casting, and stitching, providing valuable opportunities to hone their skills.
Throughout the programme, students enjoyed a blend of educational experiences and fun. We hope all participants left feeling inspired and eager to deepen their understanding of the field of dentistry, and we look forward to welcoming them in future academic years as well!
The Faculty extends sincere gratitude to our members for delivering enlightening lectures and workshops:
Professor Mike Leung teaches participants the basic skills of stitching.
Professor Walter Lam mentors students in casting techniques.
Students gains experience with dental x-rays.
In the Problem-Based Learning session, participants engage in discussions on various dental topics.
Thank you for being part of the programme!
