Professor Lijian Jin, then-Acting Dean of the HKU Faculty of Dentistry, has been named a “Top Scholar 2024” by scholarly analytics platform ScholarGPS, in recognition of his exceptional performance and influence in dental research.
According to the ScholarGPS, the platform quantitatively evaluates researchers worldwide based on their “productivity” (number of publications), “impact” (total number of citations received), and “quality” (based on the h-index, reflecting both productivity and citation impact). The platform combines these three metrics into a composite percentage score, called the “ScholarGPS Top Percentage Rank”, which allows comparison of researchers within their peer group.
Using its own proprietary database of over 30 million scholar profiles and records of 200 million publications, ScholarGPS ranks the world’s scholars in 350,000 specialties, 177 disciplines, and 14 fields. To be named a Top Scholar, a researcher must rank in the top 0.5% of all scholars in their specialty, discipline, or field.
Professor Jin’s selection as a Top Scholar 2024 underscores his relentless dedication to advancing oral health sciences, demonstrated through his impactful research output and scholarly leadership. Under his direction, the Faculty has fostered a vibrant academic environment conducive to innovation, interdisciplinary collaboration, and international excellence.
“I’m honoured to be recognised by ScholarGPS,” said Professor Jin. “This distinction reflects not only my own efforts, but more importantly, the shared passion, commitment, and collaboration of our Faculty research staff and students, all supported by a dynamic and enabling institutional infrastructure. It inspires us to continue pushing the boundaries of dental science and to translate our discoveries into better patient care worldwide.”
