Children of HKU alumni enjoy an educational day of play and exploration as mini-dentists
Children enjoy a day as mini-dentists.
Every year, the University of Hong Kong hosts its annual Alumni Day to reconnect with graduates from different generations. At this year’s HKU Alumni Day, held on 16 March, the HKU Faculty of Dentistry’s Institute for Advanced Dentistry Multi-Specialty Clinic (IAD-MSC) took centre stage by hosting an engaging and fun-filled Mini-Dentist Workshop that captured the hearts of children of HKU alumni.
The workshop welcomed 45 enthusiastic children, accompanied by their parents, to a playful and educational journey into the world of dental care. Wearing white laboratory coats, the young participants proudly stepped into their roles as miniature dentists for the day, engaging in activities designed to spark curiosity and boost awareness of oral health. The event also gently addressed common dental anxieties and built a sense of confidence around oral healthcare and dental visits, transforming fear into fascination.

Throughout the session, children learnt proper toothbrushing techniques, emphasising the importance of maintaining oral hygiene from a young age. Equipped with mouth mirrors, they role-played as dentists, performing dental check-ups on their parents. This hands-on approach not only educated but also entertained, ensuring that the children left with both new skills and fond memories.
In addition to the Mini-Dentist Workshop, alumni were treated to exclusive guided tours of the IAD-MSC’s cutting-edge facilities. These tours provided an inside look at the clinic’s comprehensive services and advanced technologies, showcasing HKU Dentistry’s commitment to excellence in dental education and patient care. Alumni had the chance to witness first-hand the innovations that are shaping the future of dentistry, reinforcing their pride in HKU’s continued leadership in the field.
