On 14 February 2025, the HKU Faculty of Dentistry hosted a retreat at the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club, where over 60 Faculty members gathered to shape the next chapter of HKU Dentistry’s journey. The event, led by then-Acting Dean, Professor Lijian Jin, together with the Associate Deans, was a day dedicated to strategic visioning, collaboration, and charting a bold course for the Faculty’s future.
The retreat began with Professor Jin’s welcome, highlighting the Faculty’s aspirations and the importance of teamwork and collective effort in achieving new milestones. He set the stage by outlining a clear vision for the Faculty’s continued growth in teaching, research, knowledge exchange, and clinical excellence.

Throughout the day, the Associate Deans led focused sessions aligned with their respective portfolios, fostering open dialogue and the sharing of diverse perspectives. These collaborative discussions offered Faculty members a valuable opportunity to reflect on current strengths, identify new avenues for growth, and strategise for greater impact. Ideas flowed freely, and a strong sense of common purpose emerged as participants explored innovative approaches to advance the Faculty’s mission.
The retreat culminated in a Synthesis Session, where the Deanery distilled the day’s insights into actionable steps. In his closing remarks, Professor Jin underscored the Faculty’s unwavering commitment to academic excellence and its responsibility to create a meaningful impact, both within the university and across local and global communities.
“The retreat stands as a testament to the Faculty’s dedication to continuous improvement and collective success,” said Professor Jin. “By building on strengths and embracing new challenges together, we are poised to reach even greater heights.”
