Professor Jin witnesses the exciting moment with all participants when the latest world ranking is released

HKU Faculty of Dentistry has once again re-affirmed its position as one of the global leaders by securing 2nd place in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026 (Dentistry). It further consolidates HKU Dentistry’s international reputation and impacts.

This is not an isolated achievement, but a consistent tracked record of excellence. Over the past twelve years, the Faculty has been ranked among the world’s top three dental schools in ten years (2015–2026). Such sustained performance highlights the Faculty’s long-term commitment to high-impact research and discovery, innovative dental education, knowledge exchange and professional oral healthcare services to the community.

Professor Lijian Jin, Dean of the HKU Faculty of Dentistry, stated the ranking as a shared success. “It is a strong affirmation of over four-decade dedication of our faculty members, students and alumni,” he said. “It represents our strong commitment to excellence in teaching, impactful research, knowledge exchange, and the delivery of high-quality oral healthcare. We will continue to be dedicated to nurturing the next generation of dental professionals, researchers and entrepreneurs, working side by side with our esteemed stakeholders and collaborators to reshape the future of oral healthcare in Hong Kong and beyond.”

To mark this important milestone, the Faculty was proud to celebrate with the Faculty members, students, alumni, stakeholders and distinguished guests the notable achievement of being ranked 2nd in the world in the QS World University Rankings by Subject for the second consecutive year on 25 March 2026. The occasion was not only a celebration of international recognition, but also appreciated the trust and support the Faculty has received from the government, HKU and the entire community over the years. The Faculty is deeply grateful for this consistent confidence and delightful encouragement.

We will continue to be dedicated to nurturing the next generation of dental professionals, researchers and entrepreneurs, working side by side with our esteemed stakeholders and collaborators to reshape the future of oral healthcare in Hong Kong and beyond.

On the occasion, Professor Jin also paid tribute to the Faculty’s longstanding partners and collaborators, in particular the Prince Philip Dental Hospital (PPDH), emphasising the unity of purpose that underpins their relationship. “The Faculty and PPDH work together as one integrated family. Our achievements today would not be possible without the unwavering support of our collaborators. By strengthening our partnerships and building on our shared strengths, we are well positioned to reach new heights.”

Looking ahead, HKU Dentistry remains firmly focused on growth, innovation and impact. Under a dynamic and encouraging academic environment, the Faculty is advancing new frontiers in dental education and research, supported by a strong cohort of young talents, emerging researchers and a global network of distinguished scholars. At the same time, it continues to respond proactively to evolving clinical and societal needs, locally, nationally and internationally. Through collaboration, innovation and a solid commitment to excellence, HKU Dentistry is poised not only to maintain its world-leading status, but also to reshape the future of oral healthcare, for better quality of life, health aging and long gerity in Hong Kong and around the world.
