HKDA Oral Health Week 2024

Faculty members delivered public health lectures

Oral Health Week 2024 launched successfully.

The Hong Kong Dental Association (HKDA) organised the Oral Health Week 2024 during May 9-14. The event coincided with the annual celebration of the World Oral Health Day by the FDI World Dental Federation on 20 March.

The kick-off ceremony featured a series of public health lectures delivered by our faculty members to dental practitioners. Professor Lijian Jin, Acting Dean, Clinical Professor, and Modern Dental Laboratory Professor in Clinical Dental Science, shared his expertise on the topic “Could periodontal status reflect an individual’s susceptibility to systemic health conditions? Rationale, evidence, and clinical relevance.” This lecture shed light on the potential connections between periodontal health and overall systemic well-being.

Professor Chun Hung Chu, Associate Dean (Knowledge Exchange and Development) and Clinical Professor in Cariology, presented a lecture titled “Caries Detection and Management,” which discussed contemporary practices in caries detection and management.

Dr William Cheung, Honorary Clinical Associate Professor, delivered a lecture on "Teamwork in Oral Health Prevention", highlighting how to incorporate a prevention philosophy within a dental practice. Dr Stanley Lai, Part-time Lecturer, shared insights about "A New Paradigm for the Management of Periodontal Disease in General Practice: Now and Future", emphasising a preventive-led approach to clinical periodontal practice in different clinical settings.

Throughout the Oral Health Week, registered dentists in Hong Kong voluntarily offered one-off free oral examinations, consultations, and X-rays to the public at their clinics. This initiative provided a valuable opportunity to enhance public awareness of primary oral healthcare and encouraged individuals to prioritize their oral health.
