A state-of-the-art dental laboratory was opened at Institute for Advanced Dentistry Multi-Specialty Clinic (IAD-MSC) on 30 June 2022. The IADlab is operated by Modern Dental Laboratory Hong Kong. It provides dental laboratory support with a wide range of services ranging from restorations, dentures and orthodontic appliances and offers training opportunities for our postgraduate students.

Professor Thomas Flemmig, Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry said, “The new in-house IADlab is able to enhance treatment efficiency for both dentists and patients. We believe that the collaboration can lead to success in improving excellence in oral health sciences, education and professional care.”

IADlab is equipped with advance technology, ranging from digital scanners, dental milling machines and 3D printing. Furthermore, accurate impressions are essential in fabricating dental restorations. By using intraoral scanners, dentists can simply scan their patients’ oral condition and transmit the data instantly to IADlab for processing. Clinicians and patients can then preview and discuss the clinical outcomes of the tailor-made dental prostheses as well as refine the desired restoration.

Dr Ronald Chan, Chairman and Executive Director of Modern Dental Group, stated “Modern Dental first started as a one-man dental laboratory in Hong Kong and over the past 35+ years, it has grown to be the leading global dental prosthetic device provider. Having its origins in Hong Kong, the cooperation with the HKU Faculty of Dentistry, one of the top dental education institutions in the world, has a special significance to us. We will ensure to introduce the newest dental prosthetic solutions and workflows which will further foster dental education, care and service to the local community.”
