HKU Faculty of Dentistry engages in fruitful exchanges with various institutions
The Prince Philip Dental Hospital
Professor Lijian Jin, Acting Dean of the HKU Faculty of Dentistry, warmly welcomed a visit from the Board of Governors of the Prince Philip Dental Hospital on 8 July, 2024. The meeting provided a platform for senior administrators of the Faculty and the city’s dental teaching hospital to discuss opportunities to advance their long-standing partnership. Professor Jin expressed his enthusiasm for enhancing communication and collaboration, saying he looked forward to working together to further advance dental education and training, ensuring a bright future for the discipline of dentistry in Hong Kong and beyond.

School of Stomatology, Shandong University
On 16 August 2024, the Faculty hosted a delegation from the School of Stomatology at Shandong University, led by its Dean, Professor Shaohua Ge. The visit culminated in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding, which will serve as a framework for high-quality cooperation in dental education and research. Plans include staff and student exchanges, allowing participants to gain valuable insights and experiences from each other’s institutions; the organisation of joint conferences, providing a platform for sharing knowledge and advancements; and joint research projects, enabling both sides to work together on innovative dental research endeavours.

School of Stomatology, Guangzhou Medical University
On 27 August 2024, a delegation from the School of Stomatology at Guangzhou Medical University, headed by its Dean, Professor Jiang Li, visited the Faculty to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The MoU paves the way for increased collaboration and engagement, including joint research projects and academic conferences. Talent and capacity building initiatives are also a key component of the MoU, providing opportunities for students and staff to enhance their skills and expertise through exchange programmes and joint training meetings. The partnership agreement is anticipated to foster innovation and excellence in dental education and research at both institutions.

Jiangxi-Hong Kong Forum
On 8 August 2024, Professor Colman McGrath, Chief, Division of Applied Oral Sciences and Community Dental Care and Clinical Professor in Dental Public Health; Professor Shi Huang, Assistant Professor in Microbiology; and Professor Zhou Ye, Assistant Professor in Biofunctional Materials travelled to Jiangxi Province as invited guest speakers at the Jiangxi-Hong Kong Dental Frontier Forum, organised by the Jiangxi Stomatological Association and The Affiliated Stomatological Hospital of Nanchang University.
During the forum, the three professors delivered lectures on translational oral health research, microbiome analysis, and dental materials. They also engaged in productive discussions with representatives from The Affiliated Stomatological Hospital of Nanchang University, focusing on the latest research developments in oral public health, oral microbiology, and biomaterials. Both organisations agreed to enhance communication and deepen cooperation in academic exchanges and talent development, with the aim of stimulating innovative research.

University of Pécs, Hungary
Professor Melissa Fok, Assistant Dean for Alumni and External Affairs, was pleased to welcome Dr Benedek Sárossi, Lecturer, from the Dental School of the University of Pécs, Hungary, on 29 July 2024. Dr Sárossi was given a tour of the Faculty’s Institute for Advanced Dentistry Multi-Specialty Clinic, showcasing state-of-the-art clinical and training facilities in comprehensive specialist care. During the visit, both parties shared their institutions’ current research initiatives and academic programmes, and explored the possibility of establishing future alliances and developing joint resources.
