She also expressed that her experience with dedicated educators and researchers in the Faculty positively impacted and even inspired her to become an educator herself. Dr Melissa Rachel Fok

Recently, Dr Fok has been shuttling between Prince Philip Dental Hospital and Institute for Advanced Dentistry Multi-Specialty Clinic to deliver didactic and clinical teaching to BDS and Taught Postgraduate Programmes students in Implant Dentistry. She also delivers teaching in the European Federation of Periodontology’s accredited postgraduate education programme in Periodontology. She said that her research is largely based on peri-implant and periodontal health and disease; and the application of autologous blood concentrates in healing, dental implant rehabilitation, dental implant material and design. Dr Fok mentioned, “I am currently leading multinational clinical trials on dental implants. I also look forward to having new collaborations with faculty members, particularly basic scientists and engineers, on cognate topics; and expanding collaboration on an international scale to carry out pilot/clinical trials of novel diagnostics and treatments on patients.”

Besides having a strong passion for periodontal and implant research, Dr Fok loves cooking and baking for her friends and family. With that, she forges an unusual relationship with the bacteria, our “foe and friend”. She experiments with the fermentation of various food and sauces using different bacteria. She also likes to travel and collect marine gemstones around the world.
