Faculty plans joint initiatives with Chinese Stomatological Association
Faculty members and Chinese Stomatological Association guests exchange ideas on strengthening ties.
The HKU Faculty of Dentistry hosted a delegation of over 20 guests from the Chinese Stomatological Association (CSA) on 23 August 2024 to foster stronger ties and to develop a comprehensive, long-term programme of strategic collaboration.
Established in 1996, the CSA serves as a unique bridge between the central government and oral health professionals, playing a pivotal role in advancing oral health in mainland China by enhancing dental science, practitioner and public education, and policy making. Their visit to HKU marked a significant step towards fostering greater and more meaningful cooperation between the two institutions in the areas of training, research, knowledge exchange, and societal impact. The CSA delegation was led by Professor Chuanbin Guo, President of CSA; Professor Xin Peng, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Deputy Director of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Department at Peking University School of Stomatology; and Professor Yi Liu, Director of International Communication of CSA.

During the meeting, Professor Lijian Jin, Acting Dean of the HKU Faculty of Dentistry, presented an overview of the Faculty’s development, recent achievements, and current efforts to contribute to regional and international dental advancement. In-depth discussions on organising joint activities included developing synergistic research agendas, planning regular student and staff exchanges, and sharing best practices in dental education, professional training, and community and policy engagement. The meeting concluded with a commitment from both parties to ongoing dialogue and sustained partnership.
We greatly value such communication, exchange of ideas, and sharing of expertise, so that our collaborative efforts can help improve the quality of oral health care education and services for our communities.
The visit included a guided tour of the Faculty’s cutting-edge research and educational facilities, where the CSA delegation was invited to observe innovative technologies in action. The guests were particularly impressed by the Central Research Laboratory, the Simulation Laboratory, and the advanced clinical training provided to students.
“We greatly value such communication, exchange of ideas, and sharing of expertise, so that our collaborative efforts can help improve the quality of oral health care education and services for our communities,” said Professor Lijian Jin. “The Faculty is keen to build a strong and lasting relationship with the CSA and to identify and pursue multiple avenues for future cooperation.”
