Highlights from the Dental Public Health Committee events
The schoolkids have a fun and educational experience
The Dental Public Health Committee of our BDS students has recently organised a series of engaging events to promote oral health awareness. These initiatives showcased their commitment and leadership in educating the community about the importance of maintaining good oral health.
The University Oral Health Exhibition, held in February 2024 at the HKU Haking Wong Podium, attracted over 200 participants, including HKU staff, students, and visitors. Attendees enjoyed informative displays, interactive mini-games, and hands-on oral hygiene workshops, all focused on the importance of oral health and dental caries prevention. Following this success, the committee host the “Care for Your Caries - Tooth Booths and Dental Competition” in March 2024. Secondary school teams participated in educational booths and a quiz competition on dental caries. The event featured a guest lecture from Professor Ollie Yu, Clinical Assistant Professor in Cariology.
Our students also engaged with over 100 primary 4 and 5 students during a school visit. Through discussions and fun games, they shared their knowledge about the causes, symptoms and effective prevention of dental caries.
We commend our students for their passion in leading public health initiatives. Their efforts benefit the community and inspire younger generations to prioritise their dental health. Thank you to our students!
