Dr Richard Su, Clinical Associate Professor in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, received Platform Technology Funding (PTF) from HKU University Research Committee.
With co-investigators Dr James Tsoi, Associate Professor in Dental Materials Science and Dr Yang Weifa, Postdoctoral Fellow from Faculty of Dentistry, Dr Christian Fang of Faculty of Medicine and Dr Kwok Ka-Wai of Faculty of Engineering, the 2-year-project “State-of-the-Art Virtual Surgery Technology Integration platform: Streamlining Virtual Surgical Planning and Patient-Specific Implant Design” will be implemented with the objective to develop a virtual surgery platform for dentistry, surgery and orthopaedics. The successful development of this virtual surgery platform integrating multidisciplinary technologies will produce long-lasting impacts in multiple relevant areas.
Dr Su is delighted to receive the funding and wishes to work with different faculties and to benefit the society at large.

With the project title “Age-tech for Oral Frailty in Hong Kong”, Dr James Tsoi, Associate Professor in Dental Materials Science, was selected as one of the seven global recipients of the Nakao Foundation Grant.
Dr Tsoi together with Dr Walter Lam, Clinical Assistant Professor in Prosthodontics and Dr Winsy Wong, Assistant Lecturer, Unit of Human Communication, Development and Information Sciences, Faculty of Education, will identify those suffering from oral frailty among the senior citizens in Hong Kong with appropriate age-tech. In addition, the team will also develop an app about the “At home Age-tech” oral training programme.
Dr Tsoi said, “As we age, our oral function also declines. Nonetheless, it is preventable with early detection and treatment of oral frailty.” The team hopes the project can enhance the public’s awareness of oral frailty and encourage them to seek dentist advice and treatment in the preliminary stage.
