35th IADR-SEA Scientific Meeting & 9th ASM of the Faculty Completed Fruitfully

The 35th Annual Scientific Meeting of the International Association of Dental Research Southeast Asian (IADR-SEA) Division and 9th Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM) of the Faculty of Dentistry, the University of Hong Kong with the theme “Multidisciplinary Synergy for Innovation in Oral Care” was organised from 8 to 9 December.
Officiating at the opening ceremony on 8 December 2021 were Professor Max Shen, Vice-President and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research) of the University of Hong Kong (HKU); Associate Professor Risa Chaisuparat, President of IADR-SEA and members from the Faculty of Dentistry, HKU: Professor Thomas Flemmig, Dean; Professor May Wong, Professor in Dental Public Health and Dr Waruna Dissanayaka, Assistant Professor in Oral Biosciences. Professor May Wong and Dr Waruna Dissanayaka were also the Chairperson and Scientific Committee Chairperson of the Organizing Committee of 35th IADR-SEA Division Scientific Meeting respectively.

Keynote lectures, symposiums and Faculty’s ASM with scientific oral presentations were held throughout these two days. On 8 December, keynote speakers Professor Seiji Nakamura and Professor Maurizio S. Tonetti delivered their lectures on “A novel disease entity, IgG4-related disease, includes so-called Mikulicz’s disease and Küttner’s tumor: its clinical, pathological, and immunological aspects” and “Clinical research and evidence-based medicine to inform guidelines and policy for better oral health” respectively. The symposiums on “Microbiomics: from bench to chairside” and the “Young Scientist Forum” were the first time organised at the IADR-SEA ASM.
On 9 December, keynote speaker Professor Edward Lo spoke on “Clinical studies on dental caries in the Southeast Asian region” followed by Faculty’s ASM. The Faculty’s academic staff participated in the first oral presentation session while students presented in the second session. The symposiums on “Innovation in material-biology interfaces in dentistry” and “Oral health and successful aging: Implications for research & practice” marked the end of the two-day virtual sharing programmes. The event was concluded fruitfully after the awards ceremony and closing remarks.
