BDS Year 5 & 6 Students Delivered Online Dental Educational Information
Dentistry is a collaboration between clinicians and patients. Quality and adequate treatment outcome can only be achieved by engaging the patients. Considering the diverse backgrounds of the patients, some of them may be ill-equipped with the knowledge to handle dental problems that arise. Because of the massive amount of information that lacks proper reference or evidence on the Internet, general public may receive inaccurate messages that could lead to delay in treatment or deterioration in their dental health.
In view of this, a group of Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) Year 5 and 6 students launched the “Patient Education Resources” Project to provide the public online information sheets and videos covering various dental and oral topics:
Information sheets are available in both Chinese and English. In addition, detailed and helpful videos on oral hygiene instructions are also provided. QR codes linked to the information are accessible inside Comprehensive Dental Care Clinics in the Prince Philip Dental Hospital, where patients can view and share. “We not only wish the patients to obtain correct oral health information, but also to rectify their misconception,” said BDS 5 & 6 students.
