The HKU Faculty of Dentistry has once again affirmed its international recognition and impacts, with 21 currently serving full-time faculty members listed among the world’s top 2% of scientists released by Stanford University for 2025. It reflects the depth and breadth of research excellence within the Faculty. Each of the 21 scholars has made substantial contributions to their respective academic fields, ranging from basic and translational science to clinical innovation and public healthcare, helping to reshape how oral diseases are better understood, proactively prevented, and precisely and effectively treated.
Being named among the world’s top 2% is more than a measure of citation impact. It signifies sustained influence, rigorous inquiry, and a long-term commitment to advancing scientific knowledge and technology that benefit patients, practitioners, and policymakers alike. From pioneering new diagnostic tools to driving evidence-based healthcare and informing health policy, the work of these researchers reaches far beyond the laboratory and/or clinic.
Their achievements also underscore the Faculty’s role as one of the global leaders in dental education, research and innovation and knowledge exchange. They enrich the learning environment for students at all levels, potentially bringing cutting-edge discoveries into the classroom and clinic, and inspiring the next generation of clinicians and scientists to push boundaries and ask challenging and forward-looking questions.
This milestone is a collective success for the Faculty of Dentistry, reflecting not only the accomplishments of individual scholars, but also a strong research culture built on power horse with strong confidence, innovative mindsets, collaborative teamwork, and targeted impacts.
